Frequently asked
questions: A. No. As water washes across the Cinch gutter guard's surface, the principle of "surface adhesion" attracts water to the surface, forcing it into the gutter. This is the same principle as running tap water over the surface of a drinking glass.
A. No. Unlike water, debris actually deflects off the surface, away from the gutter's face.
A. Yes. It should only take a few minutes to install each gutter guard section. They simply fasten between the roof and the gutter's edge. No special tools, nails, or brackets are required. Complete installation instructions accompany each order and phone or e-mail assistance is available.
A. Yes. Unlike mesh gutter covers--which clog over time--Cinch gutter guards resist debris and will provide years of maintenance and hassle free operation. Q. What colors are available? A. Cinch Gutter Guards are available in white, beige, and clay. The gutter guards can also be painted with a good quality exterior latex paint.
A. Yes. Because Cinch gutter guards are solid vinyl, snow and ice can’t accumulate in your gutters which could otherwise lead to expensive, roof, ceiling, and foundation damage.
Q. My basement currently leaks during heavy rain. Can Cinch gutter guards help prevent this problem? A. While we can’t guarantee to resolve this problem, a number of our customers that have been able to attribute their leaking problems to clogged or improperly installed gutters were able to eliminate leaking after Cinch gutter guards were installed.
Q. I have looked at competing products such as WaterFall (TM) and the Gutter Helmet (TM), and I was told I would have to make expensive adjustments to my existing gutters before I could install them. Is this the case with Cinch gutter guards? A. No. Cinch gutter guards have been designed and engineered to optimize the individual characteristics of your roof. You simply will not find a better or more cost effective solution to your clogged gutter problems. Q. What about roofs that are very steep? A. The Cinch gutter guard system has been tested on roofs all the way up to 12/12 pitch (45 degrees). The upper limit for slope will vary depending upon the total roof space. Anything over a 12/12 pitch should be tested first with one piece only to ensure effectiveness. Q. Do you have to nail The Cinch gutter guard into the roof deck? A. No. One end of the Cinch gutter guard slides under the first course of shingles and the other end snaps onto the lip of the gutter. No nailing is required. Q. Will the wind blow the Cinch gutter guard off of the gutters? A. No. The shingles hold the product in from the top and it locks onto the inside edge of the gutter (In some cases you may need to secure the gutter guard with a 6X1/2 inch sheet metal screw onto the top edge of the gutter.) Q. How do you deal with corners? A. The Cinch gutter guard should be miter cut for both inside and outside corners. Also, it is good practice to install diverters at the bottom of long valleys created by two roof sections meeting at an inside corner. There is no rule of thumb for this; it is a solution if water flow is heavy in the valley. Q. Should the ends of the gutter runs be capped? A. Yes! Birds and critters will find holes at the end of the gutter runs to be attractive hiding/living places. You should cap the ends by following our instructions that are sent out with your order. Q. Will the Cinch gutter guard deteriorate in performance over time? A. No. Normal weathering will enhance the performance of the gutter protection system. The system must be uniformly wet in order for it to work properly. This, of course, will happen with any rainfall. Some minor run over may occur initially, but within 30 days that will stop. Q. Will the Cinch gutter guard work with all different roof types? A. While the Cinch gutter guard is effective on all types of roofs, because of installation, some roofs may be too difficult to install on. If you have a concern, test to ensure effectiveness. Q. Does the Cinch gutter guard keep pine and other small debris out of my gutter? A. Yes. The Cinch will keep the majority of pine debris out of your gutters. Most debris enters gutters when it is dry out. Leaves fall and are blown by the wind into the gutters. Since the water channel is the only opening into your gutters, larger debris cannot enter. It is important that the gutter system be thoroughly cleaned before installation of the Cinch gutter guard system. Any debris which manages to pass through the small gap into the channel and through the holes will flush through the clean gutter underneath because there is no larger debris to hang it up and cause a clog. Another common question is whether or not small debris (i.e. pine needles) will get caught in the channels and cause water to shoot off to the side. The answer is no. When debris is able to navigate into the water channel of the Cinch gutter guard, one of two things will happen naturally: It will pass through the holes in the bottom of the channel and will flush through the clean gutter or the debris will sit in the channel briefly but will be blown out by wind. The reason wind is so effective in clearing these channels is because when it passes over the water channel, it creates an lift similar to that of an airplane wing, thereby creating an upward draft and blowing away any debris. Stubborn debris can be cleaned from the water channel from the ground using a high pressure garden hose or a broom on an extension pole. Twice a year you should take a garden hose and spray off the nose of the Cinch gutter guard to rid it of any excess dirt buildup.
